One of Street Fighter V’s top players NY_ChrisG posted a rather controversial comment on Facebook in response to a question posted by a Black Girl Gamer (BGG) asking,
“Has anyone noticed that Asian female gamers get more love than black female gamers?”

ChrisG replied,
“Black female gamers suck. Asian female gamers at least pretend to be good. There you go.” While everyone is entitled to their opinion this isn’t what divided the FGC. ChrisG continues to write,
“Bonus reason. Y’all be ratchet as hellllllllll.”

This is the comment that did it. While no one is forced to pick sides people quickly voiced their opinion. We have one gamer at the name of Kevin Hodge who quickly wrote to ChirsG,
“Fuck you dude, that’s some ignorant shit.” ChirsG continued on supporting his original statement writing,
“It is a fact. I live the scene. You know how many Black “gamer girls” have hit me up about sex but can’t even do a dp (dragon punch) motion in street fighter. These are facts. The fgc stats away from most of them for a reason.”
Hodge is not in agreement with ChrisG’s supporting facts and ChrisG trying to up his credibility some more by saying,
“Lol this guy has no idea who I am. This is why you are useless in this convo. Glad I live in the basement
Hodge continued to challenge pro player ChirsG by baiting him to drop names of the black gamer girls that allegedly hit him up for sex. The poster of the original question told ChrisG to get off her status which is where ChrisG ended his commentary with this statement, saying he is going to unfriend her, calling her opinions backwards then reiterating that Black Girl Gamers are ratchet and saying he knows a certain number of Black girls in the fgc and only 10% are serious about games and are respectable then finally concluding his statement with,
“And my word is law. Enjoy ur day.”

After Speaking with a few Black male gamers of the FGC there are a few different opinions on ChrisG and his statements. The most popular one seems to be that they do agree with their being a lack of Black Girl Gamers in the FGC however, they do not appreciate the disrespect that is being dissed out while he is trying to make a point. They advise we get good and prove him wrong.
More men were public with their opinions like Christopher “Footwurk” Leggett,
“Dayum bro, you ain’t have to come at black female gamers like that Chris. We know everyone tendencies but racial profiling is never cool…”

Footwurk also did a Facebook Live video talking about the situation:

Jesse Tucker wrote,
“The issue is not wondering if black girl gamers place in tournaments, it’s that he generalized all black girl gamers as the “ratchet” ones. That’s fucked up because it is simply not true.”

Chris “ALL CAPS” Carey wrote,

Well, they don’t call him “ALL CAPS” for nothing. After speaking to top players the overall thought process is ChrisG isn’t racist but what he said is definitely perceived as racist.
There is a gang of women who disagree with ChrisG’s statements, most of them happen to be Black Girl Gamers. There are black women that compete in the FGC such as CuddleCore in Tekken, StryfeCT in Guilty Gear, Kendra in Vampire Savior Brittany FatalFemme in SFV and many more.
ChrisG made an apologetic post on Facebook saying,

ChirsG is a top player in SFV he’s known very well but, yet there haven’t been any articles exposing the things that he’s said. We’ve seen many gamers before him in articles explaining the racial slurs that they have said and being dropped by their sponsors. ChrisG’s alleged apology was not for what he said but how he said it. ChrisG has not been dropped but this sort of thing happens too often. Perhaps depending on how big the player is then it’ll get more attention. However, he has flown under the radar but, the Black Girl Gamer community and those who support them will remember this. It looks like a direct attack on them and they are not standing for it. They are asking for people to hold not only him but other men in the FGC accountable for their words, actions and mindsets toward Black girls.
Some men in the FGC expounded on the topic of racism saying it’s the culture of the FGC and they are fed up.
Jeremy Florence, competitive SFV player wrote on his Facebook,

The most interesting fact about this is during a fighting game tournament, Frosty Faustings, in January I interviewed a few competitive players like ChrisG, winner of Kumite In Tennessee (KIT) JoeyD and Black male gamer, Linux to ask them about the presence of Black Girl Gamers in the fighting game community. I did this to show the footage during a panel at PAX East 2017, Creating a Safe Space for Black Girl Gamers. Not only was this a debut for BGG but also to bring awareness to either players who don’t think about it also, to rally more Black Girl Gamers to join the movement and show up to tournaments and conventions. JoeyD was very encouraging in his word to the BGG. He said he’d like to see more women come out and play. Linux was very supportive of the idea as well and ChrisG gave some advice. ChrisG’s and Linux’s responses are posted below.
